The Sustainable Practice of Upcycling and Recycling

Did you know that nearly every commercial carpet vendor now uses recycled content in at least a percentage of their product lines? It’s a wonderful truth! The products they are producing are not only innovative in their content but also their design. It is almost as if the concept of modern thinking in content rolls over into their thoughts on aesthetic appeal. We’ve seen tremendous strides in the use of reclaimed materials in textiles and flooring is not far behind. Not only is upcycling and recycling a good sustainable practice, it is a good economic investment as well.

“As sustainability continues as a top trend in the retail industry, retailers and brands are adapting to stay relevant and offer sustainable solutions to their consumers. Customers are taking note: 93% of global consumers expect more of the brands they use to support local social and environmental issues. The report also found that an estimated 68 million adult Americans base purchasing decisions on their values – personal, social, and environmental – and say they will spend up to 20% more on environmentally sound products.” Forbes Magazine’s Greg Petro.

Here is an interesting video on how past prime carpet materials is recycled to be remade into new flooring materials.
